Changes to Aintree race course given the thumbs up

Aintree race course has been in the news again recently, after modifications have been implemented with the aim of making those infamous fences easier to jump.

I found an insightful article over at GeeGeez which outlines the feedback given by jockeys and trainers alike.

Ballabriggs (Jason Maguire) wins the Grand National Aintree 9.4.11

Two fences, however, still pose a problem.

In the review of the National course two fences were identified as causing particular problems: Becher’s Brook and the plain fence two jumps before it.

Sitting fairly pretty at the Tipster Site

Took a look at the latest league standings over at the Tipster Site at the weekend, and the results for December have been posted.

My laying service is sitting fairly pretty in fifth place against thirty other tipster services, and we are now two month’s into the winter season.

During December I gave out twelve advices on horses to bet against: 3 of these still went on to win, but we had 9 successful bets. Those betting to my advised stakes pocketed just under 6 points profit, so almost £60 if you were using £10 stakes.

After two months the profit returned stands at 28 points (£280 to £10 stakes).

  • December Profit: 5.94points
  • Profit since 1st November 2011: 28.77points

If you don’t know theTipsterSite.com it’s a tipster proofing website which currently monitors around thirty tipping services.

Horse Racing Bets That Win The Most Often

Many betting enthusiasts approach every race with the aim of highlighting the horse most likely to win. However, most players are also trying to make a profit overall, and the horse most likely to win might not necessarily represent the best bet.

Horse racing expert Bill Peterson has recently published a helpful article which attempts to explain the difference between bets that often win, and profitable bets.

One of the fundamentals of betting that I subscribe to, suggests you should ask yourself why you are betting, before embarking upon a particular strategy. Are you looking for as many winners as possible? Or, are you aiming to make moeny?

The trick, if you want to use this information to improve your handicapping and profit, is to figure out when one of these horses is a good bet based on probability and payoff.

It's a well presented article and you can read it in full here:

Talking of awards, Denise Coates founder of Bet365 recently received a CBE in the Queen's new year honours list.

Coates founded Stoke-on-Trent-based bet365 in 2000, when it started out in a portable building in a car park. Since then it has grown into one of the biggest online betting companies in Britain and now employs more than 1,700 people.

Horse racing and betting: Mistakes you should avoid

If your goal is to make a long term positive gain from betting on horse racing, then it is just as important to minimise your losses, as it is to maximise your profits.

Kauto Star - Haydock 19.11.2011

Expert horse handicapper Bill Peterson has just published a valuable article which gets right to the heart of the problem.

Never chase your losses. If you're having one of those days when everything you bet on seems to come a cropper, then it's just not your day. Luck comes in streaks, both good and bad. So if it seems that luck is against you, put what's left of your bankroll in your pocket and take it home. There's always tomorrow.

By the way, if you like the occasional beer whilst at the race-course, you might not like the section which deals with discipline…
